't Galgenhuisje

’t Galgenhuisje (Gallows House) is the smallest pub in town. The pub gets its name from its historical past. Behind the roof, you can still see the remnants of former pillories. Over the years the building has served as a fish shop, a tripe house, an inn and is now a tiny bar with room for just 27 people: twenty on the ground floor and seven on the little attic. The relaxed atmosphere at the bar gets you in the mood for one of the 18 different beers they serve. When you read the quote on the wooden ceiling beams, you know what you’re in for. It says: ‘Alcohol is a slow poison, but we have time’. In good weather, you can also take a seat at the terrace. According to the barman, there’s room for 76 persons outside, but that seems a bit tight to us.
