Although the number of incidents of serious crime against foreigners is small, caution is always advised when travelling to foreign countries and Bulgaria is no exception. Unfortunately like in so many other countries, there are opportunists who prey on tourists, knowing that they may be carrying desirable valuables and be slightly disorientated. This can range from simple cheating on restaurant bills to armed robbery.
