Money Exchange

These days you should be able to buy leva in your home country, if not, bring Euros, dollars or pounds sterling which can easily and safely be exchanged at banks in major towns and resorts.

The acceptance and use of international credit cards or debit cards varies again depending on where you will be staying. In the main cities there should be no problems but it is still advisable to not rely on using plastic. Cash is king!

There is no shortage of ATM (cashpoints) which operate with Mastercard, Visa, Visa electron, etc., from which you can withdraw up to 400 leva in one transaction.

You can also use exchange bureaus, although not all are reputable and we would always recommend an international bank if one is available!

Hotels and airports tend to give slightly lower rates.

Never ever be tempted to change money on the streets or with someone you don't know!! You will be cheated!

Although exchange rates fluctuate on a day to day basis, for orientation purposes you can assume the following rates:
1 Euro = 1.95 leva
1 US Dollar = 1.40 leva (fluctuating)
1 Pound Sterling = 2.25 leva (fluctuating).
