Sint-Maarten

Guavaberry Company

Front Street is lined with dozens of jewellery stores, but there's basically one reason you need to visit the most popular street on St. Maarten. Naturally, alcohol is involved, although you can also purchase souvenirs like hand painted bottles, gift baskets, shirts, caps, honey, vinegar and the most delicious hot pepper sauces you've ever tasted. But the biggest attraction of this typical Creole cedar town house built on the site of an old Jewish synagogue, is local rum. Ask the friendly ladies for a free tasting, but make sure you don't have any important meetings afterward. The rum recipes on offer will also make you the coolest person at any party back home.
