Asylum Seekers & Bigots
Since last year, asylum seekers in the Limburgish village of Tienray have received a fluorescent shirt to wear if they’re out in the streets at night.
The supposed rationale for this disturbing law is that darker-skinned people (i.e. asylum seekers) are less visible at night than the predominantly white local inhabitants of this southerly village. The council spokesman has emphasised that this is not a case of discrimination, but rather an issue of ‘traffic safety’.
