Street Talk (2)

Although everyone knows Amsterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch is still off the beaten path for most foreign tourists. In each new edition of 's-Hertogenbosch In Your Pocket we'll ask two tourists what they like most about the city and what brought them here.

Elizabeth Belles-Rhodes from San Francisco, USA: “What I really like about 's-Hertogenbosch is that it’s so nearby Amsterdam. Only an hour by direct train! The last 23 years I have been coming to the Netherlands, mainly because I have an old study friend here. Only a couple of years ago I discovered this beautiful city. In the past I easily felt lost in this city, but now, with the help of the wonderful In Your Pocket guide, it’s so easy to get along. You guys give away so many hidden secrets you would have never found out by yourself.  Also, the tips in the food section are excellent. I found so many new excellent places to grab a bite... the tip to park your car at the transferium and get a free bike is the best one ever. Although the inner city is quite small and easy to get along on foot, the use of a bike is a big plus. My favourites in the city are café Pink Lemon, a great relaxing place in the heart of town. Also, I loved doing the historical boat tour. And definitely check out the great building of Sylva Ducis! St John's Cathedral is, of course, another thing which should be on everybody’s itinerary.”

Ivan Featherstone (29) from Edinburgh, Scotland: "After staying in Amsterdam for 7 nights I had more than enough of the city. I wanted to get out and find a real Dutch city. The kind of place the Dutch are proud of and a place with some history. I found all of this and some unexpected things as well in ’s-Hertogenbosch aka Den Bosch, as the locals call the city. When it comes to history my two favorite spots in the city are the Binnendieze canal tour on a warm sunny day. And on a rainy day I love the Jheronimus Bosch Art Museum. And if you want to feel like a true Dutchman, grab some frikandel to eat. They lather this footlong meatstick up with mayo and chow down. Then for the creme de la creme grab a Bossche Boll for desert. If you have a craving for something sweet, this apple sized chocolate ball filled with cream will have your taste buds dancing on your tongue. The best way to see all these things is to grab a free bike from one of the three tranferriums, these cruisers are the best way to see the city.
