Zurich

Hallwylplatz

more than a year ago
This is one of Zurich’s alternative squares. It almost looks like the city forgot it in its rush to renew and standardise everything - and that’s exactly what makes its charm. For example there’s an old grill you can use for free (bring your own charcoal), or you can play table tennis, chess or nine men's morris - the figures are locked in a box, get the key at the reception of the hotel St. Georges on the corner. On sunny days and evenings the square draws a very mixed crowd. You can bring your own drinks and when it’s hot sit on the edge of the fountain. There are a few restaurants and bars with outdoor seating around the square too - for instance Morgarten Bar, Yen’s sushi place and the very genuine but not cheap Italian Il Giglio.
