Walk to the lookout tower Loorenkopfturm

more than a year ago
On a nice day, take a walk through the woods and head to the Loorenkopfturm, a hidden and not very well known lookout tower on the Zürichberg. There you get a spectacular view of the lake, the city and the Alps. Just take tram Nº 3 from the main station in the direction of Klusplatz and get off at Römerhof. From there take the little red cogwheel train, the Dolderbahn (it departs inside a building), up to the Dolder. There head towards the Dolder sports facilities, and just before reaching them, follow the gravel path that goes off into the woods on the right hand side of the street. After a walk of around 40 minutes (watch for signs saying Loorenkopfturm), you will reach the wooden tower of 30 metres height built in 1954. Climb the 153 stairs and enjoy the views. To get back to the city, walk straight down the hill. In the residential area of Witikon take bus Nº 34 back to Klusplatz, where you can get back to the centre on tram Nº 3.
