Once, Shkodra's famous bazaar was lcoated beneath the castle, directly along the Buna river where the ships from the sea and Montenegro could dock. Nothing remains from the hundreds of Ottoman-era shops and inns due to flooding and ruthless demolition during the Communist period. Catch a little of the Balkan bazaar atmosphere in the streets west of Sheshi 5 Heronjte, where people sell all kinds of things on the street, from clothing and mobile phones to car parts, flags and plastic flowers. Note the large tree at the crossing of Rruga Oso Kuka and Rr. Leke Dukagjini; it's a famous local landmark ('meet you at the tree!') and now lends its branches and trunk to display clocks and birdcages.
