In the legend, Rozafa gets bricked up inside the castle walls so that the castle may stand – we hope that a similar sacrifice was not required for the construction of this classic 1973 commie city centre hotel, a chunk of concrete that was once undoubtedly the pride and focal point of the city. The staff is charming and friendly but they can't help it that the rooms are small, worn and musty - some with en suite bathrooms and breakfast included, others just with a shared bathroom with no shower. On the plus side, the location is great and the prices are as low as they can go. Shkodra's tourist information centre is in the lobby. One day a hotel chain like Mercure will snap Rozafa up; until then we wait.
