The one-time disgraceful mess of illegal building, rubbish and shady dealings, Rinia (Youth) Park is now the proud focus of among other things the evening xhiro, when thousands of locals dress up and stroll around to meet up and chat with friends. The spidery white building that looks like it could be the lair of a James Bond villain is an entertainment complex called Taiwan and houses restaurants, a terrace café and a casino. The main attraction however is the fountain in front of Taiwan which in the evening fascinates hundreds of young and old onlookers with its light show.

tirana The name Taiwan comes from the days of communism, when it was a trend to nickname places. Taiwan was the green island and relatively free area for youths to play guitar and across the water stream of Lana stood the communist block guarded by armed soldiers
