Vienna Airport & Airlines

Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien, airport code VIE, tel. +43 1 700 72 22 33, www.viennaairport.com) is located 18 kilometres southeast of central Vienna. It is often referred to as Schwechat, after the nearby town. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain and EU enlargement in 2004 the airport has developed into a hub for flights to Eastern Europe and the Middle East, with over 30% of the 20 million passengers per year in transit. Terminals 1 and 2 serve regular airlines while the temporary terminal 1A is built for low-cost carriers; the large new 'Skylink' terminal is set for completion in 2013.
The airport is served by the City Airport Train (CAT) between 05:38 and 23:08, by S-Bahn trains (between 04:34 and 23:47) from Wien-Mitte station and by buses from the VIB bus terminal. Passengers of Austrian Airlines and most other Star Alliance airlines using the City Airport Train can check in their luggage at Wien-Mitte station.
