Stalin's Line (Линия Сталина)

Opened in 2005 to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War,  Stalin’s Line forms part of a chain of defences along or close to the former western border of the Soviet Union that ran from the Finnish border to the Black Sea. Made up of a large collection of old tanks, aircraft, artillery and other military hardware and set among old bunkers and other defensive structures visitors are free to wander around at their leisure or to take one of the guided tours on offer by men in military uniforms. Stalin’s Line is about 30km northwest of the capital. Tours are available in Russian only.

Entrance: 24 000 BYR

I think this was one of the most educational but fun museums that i visited whilst in Minsk. As i was visiting friends in Minsk, the showed me how proud they were of their country, this museum is truly something in which belarussians are proud of. I can't wait to go back!!!!

Basically this is a museum that recreates the interwar border fortifications between the Soviet Union and the Second Republic of Poland. These fortifications were as much to keep people from escaping as they were to deter invaders. The border itself was where the tree line runs at the edge of the wide field to the north and west, and if you drive up to where the new forest begins, you can see traces of the old border in the ground if you look carefully.

Wow, truly a not-to-be-missed lunapark for an intriguing part of Sovjet-history! This almost forgotten part of Sovjet defence under Stalin, from the Baltic to the Black Sea is recently reconstructed and opened in 2005 by the president. This 'park' also features some reconstruction of the borderzones and has an astonishing collection of missiles, gun-pilboxes, a vast trenchsystem, tanks and other old millitary stuff. And to finish your visit: make a photo with the big buste Stalin-buste on the hill, one of the rare statues of him in public!
