Quirky doesn't even begin to describe this place. The tiny restaurant behind Markale is the creation of Saša Obućina: owner, host, chef, waiter and DJ. Outfitted to resemble a boat and named after an Italian opera singer, Karuzo was the first vegetarian restaurant in Sarajevo, and the menu is a somewhat schizophrenic medley combining vegetarian, macrobiotic and Mediterranean dishes, along with sushi. The overall experience of eating here has always reminded us of going to your uncle's house for dinner - only if your uncle was a great cook and vaguely resembled Steven Segal.
(KM 6 - 35).
Karuzo is great. The chef, Sasa, is all in one: chef, waiter and the host.good food, great wine. real nice.
I was in Sarajevo in January of 2011 and eat at Karuzo a few times and every time food was outstanding and Sasa is very accommodating and friendly. One of my favorite spots in entire Sarajevo. Place is cozy, food id fresh and tastes great, music is very relaxing. Overall i am giving it 9. Cannot wait to go back and eat there again!! You shout try it!!
Karuzo was one of the best vegetarian restaurants I´ve ever been to - and I´m a vegetarian for over 12 years now.Sasa is a perfect and charming waiter and cook, he helps you finding something on his huge menue and has good advices for individual preferences. In my next Sarajevo-Holidays it´s an absolute must-do (and it should be for every vegetarian, who´s rid of the meaty Balkanfood...)!
The food here is not bad, I did however find it quite overpriced for what it was. Also, be prepared for very long waiting times - the chef cooks everything himself, from scratch, so it takes a while. We were there on a very quiet night - only one other couple in the restaurant - and were still in there for over 2 hours. I dread to think what it's like if it's full.It also grates with me that this place calls itself vegetarian when it also serves fish.
