The gallery displays the largest collection of 20th century art in the whole of Republika Srpska and this is divided into exhibits of painting, graphic design, drawing, sculpture and new media art.
Yet the museum has also become a showpiece for 21st century work as well, with some fascinating exhibits, such as the recent 'Euroblic' - a photojournalistic collection taken from the work of four local photographers - gaining pride of place. Much of this focused on everyday life in Republic of Srpska as well as its modern politics, with bleak hospital wards and demonstrations among the subjects. This latter included a quite remarkable shot of a large group of uniformed police gathered together. Nothing surprising to see this at a rally, of course, but in this instance the officers are actually the protestors.
One of the key roles of the museum is to keep a close eye on the burgeoning talent in the region and it is clearly one it is performing well.
