Sports come in abundance in Banja Luka, but it has to noted that Banja Luka’s most prominent and popular sport is rafting due to its fabulous attributes of the fast and furious Vrbas River.

The main club that makes use of this activity is the Kanjon Rafting Club, just on the outskirts of town.  It will also host the soon-to-be World Rafting Championships 2009 in May, where 30 international teams from around the world will compete against each other on along Banja Luka’s river.  The club is situated directly next to the banks of the Vrbas River and is equipped with numerous inflatable rafts, ores, wetsuits and all other necessary accessories.  You can book a rafting trip through one of the travel agencies for €20 and the fleet’s experienced instructors will take you on an unforgettable trip through rapids and gorges, past canyons, cliffs and caves and show you the river-life that thrives beneath and around the banks.  The trip can last between one and a half hours or even half an hour depending how fast you would like to go.  At all times you can be assured to be safe in the hands of the rafting club’s experienced staff.

The rapids will leave you pretty wet at the end of the ride, but once you step back on land you can bundle in the domains of the rafting club, drink up a traditional Bosnian stew (corba) and have a shot of local brandy (rakija) to but the heat back into your body.

The best time to take a ride is from the month of May and throughout the summer period.  The club also acts as a camping ground where tents and camper vans thrive with tourists that have come to take a once in a lifetime occasion on the Vrbas River, many of them experienced rafters themselves arriving with their own equipment and supplies.  A large terrace is packed with those that like to watch the wet and wild action on the river, and you can even go for a paddle along the shallow banks.  Get yourself a drink and a bite to eat while watching the scenario on the river. 

A fascinating experience that can suit anyone with a sense of adventure and fun.
