Found just 200m off Pirin Street this tavern (mehana) welcomes you with an old wooden cart and the donkey Armando in the yard. This used to be the famous Hadzhiruskovi kashti tavern. The cuisine is national Bulgarian with the traditional chomlek, kapama, Banski strets (sausage), rakiena salad (rakia’s salad), stuffed turkey, rabbit the hunter’s way, baklava s lokum (Turkish sweet desert), sheep’s yoghurt, crème Brule, etc. The menu is English, Russian and Greek. You probably won’t miss the place as they hire a whooper, who will try to lure you in several languages.
