The cuisine of the Senj region is, rather ike the region itself, a combination of Mediterranean and highland influences. Down on the coast you will be treated to a wealth of fish specialities and spit-roast lamb, while up in the mountains you can taste game dishes, superb Krasno and Velebit cheeses, local honey, and rakija flavoured with aromatic herbs (notably travarica, pelinkovac and amaro). If you are a meat lover you simply must sample the Uskočka sablja ('Uskok Sabre'), a sensory explosion of various kinds of meat prepared on a grill.
