The exhibition by the most famous Croatian painter-plenerist is the pinnacle of this year’s Dubrovnik Art Gallery’s art season. Mato Celestin Medović was the founder of 20th century Croatian landscape fine art. He is the serene counterpart of the ‘temperamental and light manner’ of Vlaho Bukovac with whom he was the founder of Croatian Modern Art. Mediterranean landscapes beaming with sunshine, still life paintings, subtle portraits and magnificent altar pallets, as well as rich historical inscenations, are reason enough for a prolonged stay in the halls of the Dubrovnik Art Gallery during these spring months.
