Row, row, row your boat...

A team of rowers from the Neretva river valley (near Dubrovnik) have just done something either really brilliant or really nuts – rowing traditional wooden boats across the English Channel. These boats, called lađa, are not very big and are built for the calm, marshy waters of the river, not for a battering by cross-channel waves. But they made it, covering all 22 ½ miles (36km) in windy and rough conditions. It took 3 hours and 42 minutes. Next stop: a trans-Adriatic crossing. They must be barking!
