A sensation of solitude and serenity sweeps over you as you stand in the Baroque square, admiring the architecture of bygone years. Surrounding the square are former palaces of noblemen, artisans and merchant’s houses, and the Holy Trinity church, all adapted to the urban plan of the star. On the square a votive column was erected in dedication to the Madonna to protect the city folk from further grief after the plague epidemic of 1691. In the centre of the square sits the well of 1869. Situated on the square itself is the Orthodox Church of St. Nicolas. It was built by the famous Josip Stiller in the late baroque and early classic style. Within the church visitors can see the luxurious iconoclastic elegant blend of paintings and woodwork.
