Croatia is to be presented at the
World Expo 2010 in Shanghai between
May 1 to October 31.
The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Croatia, Lianqi Wu, said that the Expo in Shanghai will be the biggest World Expo to date and that in the course of its 6 months, an estimated 70 to 100 million visitors are expected to come.
So far, 192 countries and 50 international organizations have confirmed their partaking at the exhibition which will encompass an area of 322 acres in the very heart of Shanghai, on the bank of the Huangpu River.
The author of the Croatian pavilion is architect Branko Silađin, who was inspired by this year’s appealing topic entitled, ‘Better city, better life’. Therefore, he was inspired by city surroundings, calling it the central point of gathering and information.
The Croatian pavilion will be located in the C Zone together with the other European countries positioned between Lithuania and Romania. On the red facade of the pavilion, white flags will be placed creating an image of a chequered-board.
A dozen projectors will screen photos and short films of everyday life in Croatian cities onto the inner walls of the exhibiting area, sized 27x16.4 meters. All that and a whole lot more will be accompanied by authentic sounds and traditional Croatian ethno music. A five minute projection will be repeated continuously, leaving the impression of a flash journey of Croatia.
