Some way out of town in the hillside suburb of Srdoči, this Macedonian-themed restaurant is a great place to tuck into south-Balkan lamb and pork dishes washed down with some excellent Macedonian wines. Prices are eminently reasonable, and the interior artfully recreates the atmosphere of a nineteenth-century Macedonian inn. Merak, by the way, is one of those strangely poetic Macedonian words that means something inbetween wistful yearning and loving affection - an appropriate description for the way these people cook.
