Pirovac
Pirovac is the true heart of Dalmatia. Just 26km from Šibenik, this historic coastal village was founded by refugees in the 15th century, and those six centuries of life are tangible here. Pirovac Bay is a natural cove that offers up warmer seas out of season, while its two beaches are gorgeously relaxing. People have long been flocking to the healing mud of Makirina Cove, although don’t read the word ‘flocking’ and conjure up images of mass crowds; Pirovac might be the best-kept secret in Dalmatia.
The magic of Lake Vrana is 20km to the north, while Krka National Park is a half-hour drive inland. Pirovac is also a great base for exploring Kornati National Park. The uninhabited Sustipanac island is another thing entirely, a mysterious and romantic islet a stone’s throw from Pirovac. Locals call it the Island of Love, so be sure to visit and find out why.
Pirovac offers plenty for active visitors with a variety of walking trails, while energetic swimmers are in for a real treat. The summer event schedule is packed here, with everything from concerts to competitions and customs entertaining locals and visitors alike. Throw in some seriously delicious Dalmatian cuisine, and Pirovac might be the nirvana you have been searching for.
Looking for the heart of Dalmatia? You might just find it in Pirovac.
