You’ve read a lot about the turbulent years of the Turkish invasions and the local’s defence strategies. One particularly interesting example is the so-called “Turkish Caves” near Podpeći, near Tučepi. This is where people took their families and livestock to hide till the danger had passed. They’re called turske peći in local dialect, peći meaning “caves”. And hence the name Tučepi!
