Despite the presence of the occasional exotic beast here and there, Split’s zoo is a rather modest affair that displays local farm animals alongside the odd Croatian wolf, boar or vulture. And unless you have kids in tow who need entertaining, there’s not much point in coming to be honest. The cages do contain some odd combinations, with peacocks, rabbits and sheep all sharing one enclosure, and a bemused ostrich rooming with the Shetland ponies in another. The zoo’s stampeding herd of guinea pigs will trigger nightmare visions for anyone who remembers the “Trouble with Tribbles” episode of Star Trek.
Admission 5 - 10kn.
