The railway station is right next to the bus station. Zadar is not particularly well connected with other Croatian cities by rail. There are three direct trains to Zagreb a day. As for train services to Split - don’t bother, it’s quicker by bus.
Ticket prices are similar to those of buses. The ticket office is open 07:30-21:00 every day.. Outside those times tickets can be bought on board the trains. Reservations and ticket sales also in the Old Town at the Croatia Express travel agency, Široka ulica.
The Croatian Railways website has English and German pages and a search facility. For international services, it connects you to the Deutsche Bahn website.
