A ride on the wild side

Riding gratis or on your good looks? Well, if the ticket inspector is unimpressed with your attitude or aesthetic then expect to pay 150Kn on the spot. The usual procedure with Croatian citizens is that if the culprit doesn't have the cash then the ticket inspector jots down their passport number. The perpetrator has eight days in order to scrape together the money or the fine becomes 200Kn. Although this same procedure should be true for foreigners, we have some very sad displays of foreigners feigning no knowledge of either language or custom in order to get out of paying. We've also seen others being told that they will be escorted to the police station if they failed to produce the money or their passport at which point the price of the fine fluctuates enormously (between 35 - 300Kn). Be sure your look and your white lie is pleasing to the inspector before trying anything stupid.
