Prague In Your Pocket

We love spring! There’s a bounce in our step, a smile on our face and don’t even think about asking us to do any work! We hope Prague will do all of that for you and more! To help get you in the proper mood, we’ve put together some great events and festivals happening over the next few months. Of course our favourite tip is to have a wander. Getting away from the tourist route of clock-bridge-castle will do a lot to enhance your time in the city.

If you are really looking for a different view of the city, why not take a corruption tour? No, this won’t corrupt you, however the CorruptTour Agency will introduce you to a variety of places in Prague connected with corruption. You’ll see posh villas, ugly buildings and other surprising sites with one thing in common – their link with government corruption. In Transparency International's 2011 Corruption Perception Index, the Czech Republic ranked 57th alongside Namibia and Saudi Arabia on the list of 183 countries.

Czechs greatly mourned the passing of their first post-communist president, Václav Havel last December. How to honour this remarkable man has been heavily discussed in a variety of circles. One of the first suggestions was to rename Prague’s Ruzyně Airport after him. A petition was circulated and signed by more than 82,000 people who supported the idea, even if close friends and colleagues said Havel himself would have been appalled at the idea, and he hated flying. In March, the government approved the plan, saying the name change would be official in October 2012. However a new survey found that now 49% of Czechs oppose renaming the airport after Havel. Maybe it’s the awkward way it’ll sound in English: Prague Airport –Vaclav Havel.

Have a wonderful stay!

Cover Story:
From Old Town to Malá Strana, the best way to cross the Vltava River is via the legendary Charles Bridge. You won’t be alone, for that you need to get up real early, or stay out real late – but you’ll feel the history reverberating from the sculptures, admire the view to Prague Castle and of course enjoy the people watching and maybe a bit of shopping from the artisans selling their wares.
