Telephones

All fixed-line telephone numbers in Prague begin with a 2, and are comprised of nine digits. As such, Prague, like all Czech towns, now has no city code per se. The numbers you will find is this guide can be dialled from abroad simply by placing the Czech country code (+420) in front of them. Calling a mobile is the same. Czech mobile numbers begin with a 6 or a 7, which must always be dialled. When dialling abroad from the Czech Republic, you need to dial 00, then the country code, the city code and then the subscriber’s number.
You can phone abroad directly from any phone box, though you will need a phone card. There are various types on sale, all available at newsstands and cigarette kiosks. If staying in the Czech Republic for a longer period you may want to consider buying a pre-pay mobile phone card from one of the major operators: O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. All have outlets throughout Prague city centre.
For further info see the Telefónica O2 website www.cz.o2.com or call 800 02 02 02 and pray.
