Although it's not particularly easy to find, please don't let the slightly out-of-the-way location of this museum put you off visiting. It's located in the Žižkov district and is about a 5 minute bus ride from the Florenc metro station [bus 133, 175 or 207 to U Pamatniku stop]. Alternatively you can walk to the museum from the metro station in about 10 minutes. The museum consists of three permanent displays laid out across three rooms on two floors. The first room covers the period 1914-1918 and explains the involvement of the Czech and Slovak people in WW1 and the formation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. Upstairs, the second room covers the inter-war years 1919-1939 and a third room covers WW2 including the German occupation, Czech and Slovak resistance, the post-war communist takeover and subsequent Soviet domination. There is also a special First World War Centenary exhibition on the ground floor which examines the conflict from the Czech, Slovak and wider Austro-Hungarian perspective which I found particularly interesting. All exhibits throughout the museum are signed in English as well as Czech and while photography is permitted throughout the museum, you must leave your bags or rucksacks in the cloakroom. Entrance is free. Highly recommended.
