Moving into the third courtyard of the castle you’ll face one of Europe’s great Gothic cathedrals. St. Vitus is the spiritual heart of the nation as the mausoleum of Bohemian kings and the city’s greatest landmark. Work on the present cathedral was started in 1344 but it wasn’t consecrated until 1929. Check out Mucha’s stained glass window and the door with seven locks leading to the crown jewels. Don’t miss the beautiful mosaic depicting the Last Judgment of Christ on the exterior of the cathedral. The mosaic is 84 square metres and was created in 1371.
