Estonians are true beer lovers. The most popular of the national brews is Saku Originaal, with A. Le Coq coming in a close second. This time of year, cider is also a favourite. Vodka (viin) also has a strong presence, with the Viru Valge and Saaremaa brands making the biggest splash. A very sweet liqueur called Vana Tallinn is often pawned off to tourists as a traditional drink. It was actually invented in the 1960s, and many locals won’t touch the stuff. A city law prohibits all alcohol sales between 23:00 and 08:00, so if you want to have a party, plan ahead!
