Among the several war memorials just outside town on the road to Narva-Jőesuu, the most striking is the Soviet T-34 tank, which was pulled from the river and set up in 1970 as a memorial to the victims of World War Two. Significantly, this was the spot where Soviet forces broke through and moved into Estonian territory in 1944. Other monuments nearby include a small mound with a cross, which you'll see on the right side of the road in Siivertsi. It commemorates the Battle of Narva in 1700. On the left, in a cemetery just across from it, is a monument to those who died in Estonia's war for independence, 1918 - 1920.
