Osteria del Gallo Nero

Osteria del Gallo Nero
Personality is everything, and that's exactly what you'll find at this cosy Italian food shop/café. The owners turn it into lively - albeit tiny - wine bar at night. They'll mingle with you and may even encourage you to sing along with the stereo.

We are two familys from Sweden we enjoyed a suberb meal and great vine. In a piece of Italy in the middle of Tallin!

Hey! I recommend Gallo Negro. We just discover yesterday, evening, after dinner in Controvento. It is a real place, not italian fake. The place was completely full but we have found a space on the cellar. We get some Grappa and antipasto. Nice. Nothing similar in Tallinn. And also in Finland.

I am Estonian and I found the place, perhaps not a complete rip off, but going into that direction. Overpriced wine and a fake attitude towards customers (who at the end of the day are seen as nothing more than walking wallets). Food is nothing special, the cold meats are of very low quality (I felt sick afterwards) and prices are a little above average. I specially subscribe the previous comments about the wine: it is not good for the price. I had the feeling this place is nothing more than a "base camp" for the owner to flirt around.

I am estonian and I had great experience in Gallo Nero, just yesterday.Nice service, price regular, lovely antipastos, enjoy the atmosphere. The owner, simpatic, offered us Limoncello. I will be back.It is a real Italian bar.

Hi everyone! :) Marco! Among the tourists, too, have regular customers! ;) We were with you in March 2010! That's how you met us, bribed us one hundred percent. I have not seen pictures of Mussolini, I was not before. My mind was busy with antipasti and fine wine. And perhaps a little expensive, but right cool! Guys do not be so pompous and serious. In Italy, actually exactly what occurs in small restaurants. ;)All the best, my friends!

I echo the first comment. Wines here are way overpriced! We are local and found that the 400 EEK bottle of red, which was very basic indeed, we could find for 65 EEK in a local supermarket. I guess you pay an additional 30-40% for "the charm". The dry cuts are also of very basic quality. If you think that is a genuine and honest Italian place, you deserve it.

Cozy atmosphere, good food and great wines. I loved the homey feeling of this restaurant and the attention to detail of the decorations and lighting. The place has an amazing choice of wines and whatever vino you'll be looking for you won't be disappointed.Having mentioned details I did find the pictures of Mussolini on the wall very distasteful. Imagine going to a German restaurant and seeing photos of Hitler on the walls. Not cool. Also the owner acts like the caricature of an Italian (Artie Bucco in The Sopranos anyone?) and while some might find that funny and typical others might just perceive it as fake and annoying.

We are expats living in Estonia. My husband and I just went to Il Galo Nero on a date. We had the greatest experience. We loved the intimate cozy feeling of the wine bar. We had great service. We enjoyed meeting the owner Marco. Marco recommended great wine at an affordable price. And the Italian food was amazing! We will definately be going back.

Dear S. (Sergei? Samantha? Siim? Sasuke Sakamoto etc...),if the homey Tuscan style service annoying you, we are very sorry. Instead of Osteria Gallo Nero you can go to Mc Donald´s, Hesburger or Peetri Pizza, to find the peace. PS. Anyway wou are always welcome in Osteria. But let us know! We will book a quiet corner for you where you can finally drink - in totally orgiastic fun - your Fanta or Cola. ;)))

Yes... it is 2209. Drink less TONINO!
  • S. - Tallinn 17 July 2009
I agree. The prices are ridicolous and the guy acting like the owner quite annoying.Plus, come on guys, who would ever want to be in a place where visitors are welcomed by a picture of Mussolini?Wake up!It's 2209!

Dear Lennar, probably you order a bottle not of "CHIANTI" but some SUPERTUSCANY (Bolgheri doc, etc). Thanks for you comments. We are not looking for tourists but for regular clients that appreciate our energies to offer a selection of wines NOT FROM SUPERMARKET. Ps. Next time I personally offer couples glasses of wines GOOD or otherways go in RIMI pay 12EURO for a bottle of Chianti un-branded, and drink with pleasure in our GALLO NERO. Best regards,Marco Giomi

This wine bar is unlinke any Italian place. Except for the waiters. Selling is their speciality. Expect the wines to be very very overpriced. 40 euros per bottle. Yes, the same Chianti bottles you would not buy at the supermarket for 3 euros anywhere in Europe. Our advise: DON'T GO THERE!
