Alter Ego

Alter Ego
One of the most delightful culinary experiences we've had in some time comes in the form of this heavily Spanish-influenced, Mediterranean-style restaurant located in the fashionable Rotermanni Quarter. The owner is a recent Spanish arrival with roots in the wine industry and he certainly knows how to lavish his creativity and highly tuned palate into producing top-notch cuisine. Needless to say, the wine selection is immense and the dishes are mouth-watering.

The quality price relationship is the best in Tallinn and probably anywhere in Eastern Europe. The House Wine is EUR 9 per bottle and of a very decent standard. You can eat a wonderful selection of delicious well priced tapas or superb main courses the fish flown in Fresh every day from Western Europe. Try the Calamari prawns clams to start and Pork or Lamb for main. The owner is Spanish and knows his stuff the service is equally impressive. Well done Juan you have improved Tallinn no end.

We tried 4 of the top 10 restaurants on tripadvisor and the four of us agreed our best meal was in Alter Ego. Here we found the rare combination of professional friendly service and great food. And passion. You can feel the people working there FEEL the restaurant. We had the tuna with foie gras the pork belly stuffed quail and lamb and we all agreed the food was outstanding and great value for money. I will be remembering the tuna steak with foie for a long time. We also ended up buying (to go) the same bottle of red wine we had for dinner (they sell all their wines to go at regular shop prices). It was the best wine we had in any restaurant during our visit and funny enough the cheapest. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in Tallinn.

My sister and I had dinner at Alter Ego last night and it was just brilliant. We liked everything about it the location in funky Rotermanni the calm and elegant surroundings the very attentive thoughtful service the enthousiastic attitude of the owner and all the staff. And obviously the food was terrific. Particularly enjoyed the chicken liver tapas and the razor clams outside the menu. Wine was lovely the wine list is personal and well thought-out. We liked it all so much we just booked tickets and hotel to come over and start the New Year at Alter Ego. That should tell any reader how much we enjoyed it!

Great looking place nice friendly staff and super quick service. Unfortunately we had a poor meal. We started with Tapas and although it was quick it was cold especially the cauliflower tempura which was not cooked through. The Calamari was nt at all crispy. We then had what seemed to be the house speciality 'paella' which turned out not to be so special taste seemed very metallic. The lamb was very good though as was the pork belly although could of been crispier for my liking. The wine was very good though and the price also. It was ashame the food was a let down. It had been great when we last came and this time we had brought friends with us who were nt so impressed and a little embarrasing to say the least. I spoke to our waitress who was very nice and she told me they had recently changed chefs. I guess the new one had not found his feet yet. I guess we will go back for one last chance

Ate here in August thanks to In Your Pocket's recommendation and I must say we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent as were the dishes. We will certainly visit again next time we are back in Tallinn.

I just had their business lunch today. Amazing value! By far the best value lunch menu in Tallinn. Great food fast and professional service. Will definitely come back very often from now on.

We ate there last week. We had the best dinner of our 1 week holiday in Tallinn (and probably in the past year - which says a lot as we go out for dinner very often in London). We ate in some of the most renowned restaurants in Tallinn (O Tchaikovsky Horisont and Chedi) as well as some other less known (Ribe and Dominic) and they were all fine but Alter Ego seems to be on a league of its own. The food was stunning (we shared several tapas all delicious and each of us had a main course and dessert) and the service was absolutely spot on. We had 4 bottles of wine (two Cava and two red) and they were all excellent (specially the Cava). Best of all was the final bill the price-quality these guys offer is probably the best you can find in Tallinn and I would dare to say in all Nordic Europe.Had we found this place earlier (we went there on our last evening in Tallinn) we would have definitely come back the next day. We definitely recommend it!
