Bossanova

Apparently everybody in Tallinn is doing sushi now. Sitting right on Town Hall Square, this is a dark and swank establishment with several menus offering everything from pizza to... you guessed it - sushi. An army of staff buzzes about the place helping diners narrow their choices between calzones and nigiris. We just hope the sushi chefs won't be unhealthily inspired by the oversized aquarium and their pet shark named Eve.

The food and the service was ok until we got the check and the staff told that the card-machine was broken. My husband had to go out and take cash from a machine. The nearby machine was broken and there wasn't any other machines nearby. He came back after 15 minutes searching and the staff was willing to come with him to search one. We said that we are not going anywhere until we know that we'll get some discount for the bill. We were told that they cannot give any discount because the bill has already been written! If we werent willing to pay they would have to call the police. They said that they could give us free drinks and after complaining they would have given us a 20% discount the next day if we came to eat there. During this discussion they had borrowed a card machine from a neibouring restaurant. So we had to pay the whole bill and leave.

This is one of the few all-around rip-off restaurants in Tallinn. No local ever dares to visit Bossanova, and only poor/disoriented tourist bit the bait. Prices are about 2-3 times what you usually pay in Tallinn, quality is extremelly low and sevice tends to be poor (in the best case), arrogant and careless (as a norm). If you want to get tricked, go to Bossanova!

Ahora, mayo de 2010, parece que las cosas han cambiado, gracias al nuevo chef, Eduardo, ejemplo de universalidad (padre italiano, madre peruana, esposa de Estonia); siempre muy atento. Pero ... debieran repasar con más asuidad el WC.

The food was good, but the waiting staff and management were appalling. Wine ordered was out of stock and their recommendation was a bottle at double the price. One of the main courses served was completely different to what was ordered and the salad requested was incomplete. When calling the manager over to explain all of this, instead of listening he became very aggresive and would not accept that anything was wrong. The manager then proceeded to shout and on our exit pushed one of the party in the back. A great chef but is very let down by the lack of trained waiting staff and the appalling attitude of the restaurant manager. Considering the quality of food and service at all other restaurants used in Tallin, for the service received this is very overpriced and badly run and I would not recommend it to anybody.
