Unfortunately I had a very unpleasant experience while dining in this restaurant. It was me and my other 3 local friends who decided to have a quick nibble while waiting for the movie to start. Everything started quite well staff greeted us with a smile. However the girl who brought us menues did not even look at us nor asked if we would like to have something to drink. I ordered my coffe from the bar where a very freindly lady(unfortunately i do not remember the name probably blond though) did her job perfectly. Then we had to wait aprox 15 minutes waiteress to approach our table (which seems to be normal in Estonia anyway) when waitress came she said to us that she was confused by the fact that one person (myself) ordere coffee from the bar so she assumed that the rest of us will do the same. Our respond to her was that she could actually double check with us firstly how we prefer to order our food-table service or ordering at the bar. Without any politness or smile she took our order and disappeared. Food arrived on time and was tasty. We did not get any service at all apart from bringing dishes to the table and collecting dirty ones. I would strongly reccomend to the GM or owner of this place to hire staff that actually cares about their job and are willing to make their diners happy.
Very delicious food and very friendly staff. I can't recommend another restaurant nearby compared with Basiilik.
"Basilik is surprisingly high-quality": high-quality????? I had probably the worst pasta in Tallinn and it was not cheap! Not to mention we had to wait for 45 minutes and the place was nowhere near full. Possibly one of the worst Italians eateries in Tallinn. The point is that I heard similar comments from friends that had also been there before...(so not a matter of bad luck).
This place is trying to cheat its customers by charging additional "20% VAT" on top of its listed prices. Estonia does have 20% VAT, but it's always customary (if not mandatory by law?) for it to be included in the advertised price. I'm not averse to tipping, but this tactic is quite dishonest and left a bad taste in my mouth. Skip this place and go to Vapiano's just around the corner, or to some better pizza place in the Old Town a few minutes' walk away.
