Café Pushkin

While other Russian places are geared towards tourists, Café Pushkin is where the local Russians, including politicos and celebs, come to eat. The bliny (pancakes) are said to be the best in the city. A long list of other Russian favourites is on offer, including the triple ukha (fish soup) and the Boyar (rolled beef stuffed with cherries and walnuts).

The food is good, at a reasonable price. I've been here four times. O ne time I did get a table but three of the times they've turned us down. It might actually have been because my friend has darker skin... We felt this very uncomfortable. Especially since there where available tables and they told us there weren't, casting a glance at my friend. I hope nobody else gets the same treatment.

Dear Sirs We two couples from Helsinki visited your Cafe saturday afternoon for a meal. The food was exellent specially warm salad and pelmenis were delicous. Also the oldfasioned interior is for the very relaxing.Only thing what spoiled our visit was the horrible disco music which was too loud for us in the third generatio. We asked kindly to have the volume little bit down. The personal did not fullfil our demand. They seemd to enjoy the noise very much making move with it. We and I think customers at our age like to discuss while eating. Now it nearly impossible.Sincerely yoursP.Pasanen
