Kohvik Moon

Kohvik Moon
Café Poppy is one of Tallinn's hidden gems - and quite literally so, in fact if you didn't read about it in our guide you most likely wouldn't find it at all. Expect stylishly prepared haute-home cuisine for prices much lower than the majority of other establishments in its class. Oh, and the home baked bread was so good that we would probably do some very bad things to have it again.

(€10)

To Lisa, all I can say is that I love the Moon! Please remember though that one cannot please everyone.

Utterly disappointed with Moon. We went there a few days ago. For those that insist that this is a hidden gem for locals the restaurant was full of tourists! There was not a single table around us talking Estonian (or Russian for that matter). And I guess that's who they cater for. They initially pretended to be fully booked but there were a many tables clearly empty. So after some initial hesitation they agreed to sit us down. During our meal there came 2 local (Estonian) couples and they were told they were fully booked. Funny enough a table of four Finnish people showed up after that clearly stating they did not have a reservation and they gave them a table right away! Completely unbelievable.I have eaten in all sorts of places all over the world and I know my stuff. The food here is mediocre (completely overcooked and chewy duck TASTELESS beef fillet pelmeni in mushroom sauce swiming in industrially produced sauce with no taste of mushrooms at all). We left over 50 of the main courses on the dish something I have done very few times in my life; the waiter even didn't bother to ask. They apparently had a big group of Finnish tourists coming in just a few minutes (that's exactly what they told us). Desserts were ok but nothing special. I agree with one of the previous comments the place feels and tastes like a cafeteria (paper napkins slim service etc). We were left wondering where those people that praise this place so much regularly eat...

I visited this as my last lunch during a 4-day stay and it lived very well up to my expectations. I had borshch glazed salmon and créme brûlée and they were all superb.Service was very good and attentive. The place is far enough off the beaten path to be 'unknown' to most tourists.

Absolutely delicious and, for the quality, reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Dear Mr.Jaan,I´m sorry that you think like that of us but that is how life is - we can´t like and love the same things as others. All the best to you,Kohvik MOON

Sorry to disagree with the description: food is plane, unimaginative and not tasty at all! Prices are expensive for a cafeteria (beware, this is NOT a restaurant! At least not as we understand in Western Europe). For the same price you can get better food in similar establishments (Komeet in Solaris centre, any Reval Cafe, to name just two).I wonder how long the hype will last until people realise Moon does not offer anything special...
