Egoist

Egoist
Take all trappings of an old-fashioned, high-class restaurant - the chandeliers, the antiques, the tie-clad diners - multiply the decadence by three, and you'll get some idea of what the award-winning Egoist is all about. The sister restaurant to Gloria, this exclusive establishment has an equally impressive menu, offering choices like lobster carpaccio, pan-fried foie gras and elk fillet noisettes. Book ahead, dress to impress and ring the bell to enter.

My wife and I went to this restaurant to dine for my birthday. The ambiance and staff are exactly as others describe but the food and the menu are anything but what they advertise to be.First the menu this consisted of a menu with many hidden prices. First the appetizers don't specify that if you order for two they charge twice as much split into separate items on the bill and they give you more then the listed amount without asking for your permission. This is then something you must argue once you receive the bill.Second the food was really not as good as many other french restaurants that are 1 4th the price. It was simply just overpriced food that was ok - nothing spectacular or comparable. I think the chef just needs more time tasting the other local french food instead of being a constant 'egoist'.Overall I can't recommend this restaurant at all. If they were half the price and more honest with their menu I might consider going back but not until they change their business practices. As a side note this place was desolate when we dined there. I saw maybe 2 more people in the several hours we were there. I suspect that people may have already come to this conclusion long before we had and we had to learn the hard way.

I think that this restaurant bring a very nice experince to add to you "lifebook". It feels like your're in an mansion because of the atmosphere. The food was good, served nicely, and it was like sitting in your own livingroom i.e. very private. It's a very good conecpte and I can really recommend it to others that except nothing but good stanadard.
