Alatskivi Castle [Alatskivi Loss]

Alatskivi Castle
To find Alatskivi’s spectacular castle, follow the signs to ‘Alatskivi Loss’, a few hundred metres off to the left once you reach town. The estate was first mentioned in the late 16th Century. The castle itself is a fairly new building, constructed in the 1880s by the estates owner Baron Arved von Nolcken in the neo-gothic style. The design is based on the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, resulting in something that looks like it belongs in the UK rather than in rural Estonia. Don’t miss the surrounding parks and lakes or the recently opened Eduard Tubin museum - dedicated to one of Estonia's most renowned composers, the museum pays homage to his life and works.

Admission €5. A 45-minute English-language tour costs €15.
