If you're a newcomer to Tartu, make at least one stop at the Gunpowder Cellar while you're here. The world's highest pub is a former gunpowder vault that was carved into a downtown hillside in the mid-18th Century. If you're hungry, try the soup served in a bread bowl or the dangerous garlic bread dish called 'kiss me more'. The very decent red house beer can be ordered by the litre. The cellar tends to fill up when live bands hit the stage (you may have to pay admission).

Admission when live bands perform €2 - 5.

To Robin. It is the world'amp;#039;amp;#039;s highest pub (10.3 meters high). It does not compete in the category 'amp;#039;#34;pub what is situated in the highest mpuntain place from the sea level'amp;#039;#34;.

The pub itself was awarded by the "Guinness Book of World Records" the 'World's Highest Pub'. This refers to the fact that the pub room itself is the world's highest... not due to its elevation.

Um....how is this the world's highest pub? It's in one of the world's lowest countries! Or is it just the highest pub in town? Cheers Robin Gauldie

Very good food. Prices have gone up a bit, but still not bad value. Try the soup in the bread bowl and the home brew. Karaoke night is a blast!
