Itaalia Köök

It's hard for us to understand what it is about Itaalia Köök that keeps locals coming here. Is it the charm of hanging seashells and plastic grapes? It certainly isn't the food. Our bruschetta was soggy and our pasta had the opposite problem. Adding more to the mystery is the fact that there's a much more genuine Italian place right across the street.

Out of date. Presumably new owners. In our experience they got everything right including the price. Nearly full on a quiet day so we considered ourselves lucky to have chanced upon it. August 2011.

Abysmal. The penne a la rabiata (sic) involved something tangy, probably corn syrup and vinegar based or day-old sweet n sour sauce from Tsink Plekk Pang down the street. It reminded me of a CHinese chef's conception of what European food might be like. I don't care which restaurant was first on Gildi tänav; this place has no business calling itself Italian. Even obvious ways of redeeming itself are not followed up on - - the menu listed pasta all'amatriciana spelled amatrikana, which could have been a clever name for a chicken variation of the Roman dish, but no such luck. Just a dumb misspelling.
