Bars intro

The hair goes up on Berliners' necks when they walk into a chic, modern bar. That’s why you’ll see more kitsch looks here than elsewhere. Your wrinkled clothes will fit in well with Berliners’ haphazard outfits, though western Berlin hangouts draw a more ironed crowd. As for alcohol, men can order fruity drinks here and not lose all respect. At Kneipen (pubs) most people stick to beer. There are no last-call regulations in Berlin. The closing time may depend on when the staff gets fed up with you.

We've split Berlin's nightlife up in five areas: the city centre (Mitte and the Potsdamer Platz area), Western Berlin, Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain. Click left onto the respective categories to read about the bars in these areas.
