Frankfurt In Your Pocket
The cultural season heats up nicely as the temperature starts to drop, and Frankfurt has a wealth of artistic treats for all tastes this autumn. October see the sublime mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli and the cellist Sol Gabetta take to their own centre stages and then November welcomes one of the greatest tenors of them all: José Carreras. He might not be of the same calibre as Carreras, but Paul Potts surprised the nation and the world with his operatic voice to win a British TV talent show. November also welcomes long time trip hop star Tricky to Frankfurt and don’t miss the legendary, enigmatic poet that is the singer songwriter Leonard Cohen on what might well be his last world tour.
However, it is the Book Fair that will draw the most visitors to Frankfurt in October. With a heritage that extends almost back to the era of Johannes Gutenberg and his printing press – invented in the nearby town of Mainz coincidentally – the Frankfurt Book Fair has attracted thousands of publishers, writers and readers making it the largest book fair in the world. Those looking for a way to see the city and get a little tipsy at the same time can hop on the Ebbelwei Express for a tour of town in a crazy tram.
