Internet cafes intro

Use Freenet (www.freenet.de) to log on to the web with your laptop from fixed phones. Dial in using tel. 01929 (from anywhere in Germany) and the €0.025/minute cost will be added to the phone bill automatically.
If you have a W-LAN card slotted into your laptop, it’s possible to log on to local networks without any wires. There’s a growing number of so-called hotspots where you don’t need passwords (or can ask for one), and effectively can surf for free. Find a complete overview at www.stadtnet-hotspots.de.
In Frankfurt, there’s a hotspot in Frazer Coffee, Lyonerstr. 11. You can also login via MainSurf, which has about ten hotspots throughout the centre and the trade fair, but in time plans to cover the whole city centre. You’ll need to purchase a €9 card which gives you a total of two hours surfing time is as many sessions as you like. Get the cards at one of the service points; Costa Coffee on Große Bockenheimer Straße for instance, or surf to www.mainsurf.de.
In addition to that, AOL (see www.aol.de/aolinternetstation) has a growing network of internet stations offering free internet access and WLAN for subscribers in seven cafés across town.
