German intro

Dinner in a German restaurant is not just a time to quiet your growling stomach, but also an opportunity to meet some locals. It’s normal for patrons to share long wooden tables with other guests - so introduce yourself to your neighbours, attempt to mimic their pronunciations of menu items, and make room for others if the place gets crowded. And know in advance that service is not as attentive as many of you are used to at home. In addition to the traditional German dishes mentioned on the German menu page, you will also find unique Frankfurt creations like Grüne Sosse, a sour cream-like sauce flavoured with herbs, usually served with eggs or potatoes.

Stop in for a bite to eat with a side order of inner reflection. This heavenly German tavern is located just behind the Karmeliterkloster, a Gothic monastery in the inner city. They do perfect schnitzel here, particularly the cordon bleu, which has tons of cheese and ham on it. Portions border on the ridiculous. [...]

Besides freshly-made regional specialities, there are many excellent grilled meat and vegetarian options on the menu, served with oven-fresh bread from the on-site bakery. The large courtyard terrace holds up to 300 happy revellers in the warmer months. South of the city centre.

With minimalist flair and warm lighting, the 'Potato' bistro offers a fair amount of anything that may or may not accompany a potato on its menu. Service is excellent, and only enhanced by the homemade crisps and dips and the potato schnapps (known to the rest of us as vodka) that’s gener [...]
