Public transport
Divided into two small centres of activity a few kilometres apart, the only time you'll really need to use public transport in Gelsenkirchen is when you're shuffling between the two or are visiting the football stadium or Schloss Berge. The buses and the U-bahn are both run by the same clean and efficient company, Bogestra. Tickets prices depend on the length (time) of the journey and can be bought from machines at all stops, from the driver or by credit card over the internet, which are downloaded as pdfs that you print yourselves.
