Shopping

There’s nothing the Germans love more than taking a city centre, filling it with pedestrian precincts and lining either side of the streets with a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. This makes shopping in Germany that much easier, and shopping in Gelsenkirchen is no exception. The area directly north of the Hauptbahnhof is crammed with car-free shopping areas, and if you need to buy anything from chewing gum to a motor scooter you’ll find it within five minutes. Buer also got the same treatment and shopping here is just as quick and easy. Being Germany you’ll also find many people who work in shops speak good English. Note that with the exception of the time during the World Cup, shops in Germany never open on a Sunday.
